Position Information

Description: Under limited supervision, directs training operations for the Fire Department. Plans and coordinates all training, directs training staff, conducts classes, and maintains training records. Reports to the Fire Chief.

Training and Qualifications: High School Diploma (or GED) is required. An Associates Degree in Fire Science or a related field is preferred. Fire Science Courses, or any other combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position will be considered. Prior to employment, applicant must: (1) be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination, (2) be capable performing the minimum physical requirements of this position as required by the State of Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Commission and /or department policy, (3) prove negative drug use by certified drug screen, (4) possess a valid driver’s license, (5) be certified as a Firefighter by the State of Georgia, (6) be Certified by Georgia Firefighter’s Standards and Training as a Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer II, Structural Fire Control Instructor, and a Hazardous Materials Technician. Must be able to obtain State of Georgia Certification as an Adjunct Instructor in Live Fire Instructor, Crash Victim Extrication, Pressurized Container Fire Control Instructor, and EMS Instructor within a two years of accepting the Training Officer Position.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to assist and carry disabled persons and operate a variety of firefighting and rescue equipment, such as the jaws of life, set and climb ladders, gas powered hydraulic saws and ventilation equipment, radio communications equipment, hacksaw, crescent wrench, chock blocks, hydrant wrench, foam nozzle, salvage cover, etc. Must also be proficient in Microsoft Office and have basic computer skills. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to fifty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for physically active work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weight of 125 pounds at least one hundred feet.
